Editorial Reviews:

  • With the OXO Good Grips Cherry Pitter, baking cherry pies, canning cherries and making homemade preserves are no longer the pits. The Cherry Pitter features a removable splatter shield that directs juices downward and prevents them from soiling your work area. When not in use, the splatter shield fits inside the front chamber and a lock holds the Cherry Pitter closed for convenient storage. Sturdy, die-cast zinc construction removes pits with ease, and soft, comfortable non-slip handles absorb pressure while you squeeze. The cherry holder is extra large to accommodate Bing and Rainier cherries and has a recessed cup to securely hold smaller varieties when pitting. Also try the Cherry Pitter to prepare fresh cherries for small children. The Cherry Pitter should be placed in the dishwasher in its unlocked position.

  • Summary: oxo Cherry Pitter
  • Comment: This pitter is very effective, and the guard makes it clean to use. Do not, however tighten the guard very much when attaching it, because it can be difficult to remove for storage.

  • Summary: Does the job
  • Comment: This cherry pitter does the job. I wanted one to pit cherries for my 4 yr. old who would eat cherries like apples because of the pit. Now half the cherry is not being waste. Sometimes it doesn't work the best on softer cherries and bigget pits will get stuck occasionally. Overall, I am happy with it.

  • Summary: The Perfect Pitter!
  • Comment: I know there's a whole host of folks out there who will tell me that a paper clip is the fastest, easiest, and cheapest method by far for pitting cherries. However, for those of us who just have to have the gadget, this is the one to have! The OXO people have thought of just about everything in their design and engineering of this product. Not only is the grip perfect, with just the right amount of "spring back" tension in the hinge bolt, but even minute details have been given careful attention. For example, the end of the pitting ram is fashioned to put a slight spin on the cherry stone, making for less splitting as it is ejecting. The perch where the fruit rests holds, but doesn't grab the cherry, allowing for fast "dump and re-load" -- important if you're pitting several pounds at a sitting. Then there's the splash guard. Ingenious!

This is what makes the difference between a kitchen tool that's an adequate "throw away", and one that you will want to keep forever. The care and obviously professional input that went into this tool comes out as quick, easy, flawless performance every time. Bravo, OXO!

(By the way, this review comes after this reviewer purchased and tested three other competing pitters, all of which were abysmal in comparison!)

  • Summary: Simple and Effective
  • Comment: This product is simple and efffective. I would have given it 5, but it can miss a pit every once in a while if you are pitting fast and get careless.

  • Summary: Not so wonderful.
  • Comment: This is a nifty little gadget that looked like it would do the job better than my old cherry pitter that has no shield. But even though I held the pitter inside a large mug for the pits to fall into, I still have cherry juice splatters on my shirt. Darn! I will admit it worked quickly and easily.
